Kenya Police, buoyed by their financial strength, are expected to be among the busiest clubs during the transfer window as they strengthen for domestic and CAF competitions, with Ochieng emerging as one of their priority defensive targets.
Kenya Police FC are plotting a move for Gor Mahia assistant captain Geoffrey "Simiti" Ochieng after the experienced defender's contract with the record Kenyan Premier League champions expired, leaving his future at K'Ogalo hanging in the balance.
The left-back, who has been one of Gor Mahia's longest-serving players since joining from Western Stima in 2019, is among several players whose contracts have lapsed as the club weighs its options ahead of the new campaign.
Sources close to the former league champions, Kenya Police FC, have revealed that the club has already initiated contact with Ochieng as they seek to bolster their squad for the title defence and continental football.
"We have spoken to the player and his representatives because he fits the profile we are looking for," a source close to the Police technical bench said.
"He is an experienced winner, a leader and one of the best left-backs in the country. Naturally, a player of his calibre attracts interest. At the moment, we are monitoring the situation because he is a free agent."
Another source familiar with the discussions indicated that Kenya Police are prepared to move quickly should Gor Mahia fail to table a contract renewal offer.
"The feeling is that if Gor do not make a firm commitment soon, then we will push to conclude a deal. He would bring leadership and a winning mentality into our dressing room."
Despite the growing interest, Ochieng insists he has not made a decision on his future and remains respectful of Gor Mahia, where he has enjoyed considerable success.
"It is true there has been interest from other clubs, and I appreciate that because it means people value what I can offer," Ochieng said.
"But I have not made any final decision. Gor Mahia has been home for me for many years, and I want to see how the situation develops. Once everything becomes clear, I will sit down with my family and management before deciding my next step."
The defender also admitted that playing outside Kenya remains an ambition.
"Like every professional footballer, I would love to test myself abroad if the right opportunity comes along. It has always been one of my career goals, but I also have to consider what is best for me at this stage. I am not rushing into anything."
Ochieng returned to action earlier this year after recovering from a lengthy knee injury that kept him sidelined for several months. He reclaimed his place in the Gor Mahia squad and reaffirmed his importance within the dressing room.
With Gor Mahia yet to communicate publicly whether they intend to renew his contract, the uncertainty has opened the door for rival clubs to make their move.
