MOFA lock horns with Nairobi City Stars in what promises to be a tactical masterclass.

The National Super League (NSL) continues on Sunday afternoon with a dozen fixtures lined up across the country, as the second tier gears into full swing following Saturday’s 27 September curtain-raiser that saw Mombasa United edge Mully Children’s Family (MCF) 1-0 to secure their first win of the campaign.

The spotlight of matchday two will be at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay, where Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) lock horns with Nairobi City Stars in what promises to be a tactical masterclass.

MOFA, entering only their second season in the NSL, will be looking to prove their mettle against an experienced City Stars side keen to bounce back to the top flight after last season’s relegation from the FKF Premier League.

The clash also carries a subplot of mentorship, with MOFA head coach Charles Bruno having previously worked under Simba wa Nairobi’s tactician Salim Babu during their time together at Kisumu All Stars.

Bruno’s charges will count on a robust pre-season and an influx of experienced recruits including Nelson Amunga, Josphat Onyango, Geidon Ogweno, Noah Jagongo, and Joseph Onyango to counter City Stars.

The Nairobi outfit, on the other hand, endured late preparations following uncertainty after their principal sponsor, Jonathan Jackson Foundation, pulled out.

Despite the turbulence, City Stars remain a formidable force with clear ambitions of sealing an immediate return to the FKF-PL. Sunday marks the first-ever meeting between the two sides in what promises to be an entertaining contest.

Elsewhere, Naivas FC will test their promotion credentials against Fortune Sacco at Wang’uru Stadium in what has become one of the league’s most intriguing rivalries.

The retailers, who finished third last season, are determined to finally break the promotion jinx after falling short in successive playoffs, first to Sofapaka and most recently to Posta Rangers. History favors Naivas, who boast a perfect record in their last four encounters with Fortune Sacco.

Yet, Fortune Sacco cannot be written off. The Kirinyaga-based outfit ended last season in fifth with 58 points, just four behind Naivas, and have strengthened heavily with the likes of Omar Swaleh, David Omondi, Louise Shuma, Jackson Juma, Yusuf Ochieng, Joshua Abuya, and Lucky Musyoka.

Their ambition of a maiden promotion is clear, and Sunday’s clash offers a perfect stage to make a statement.

Naivas, meanwhile, have also reinforced their squad, bringing in Fredrick Shiundu, Dismus Ongocho, Emmanuel Lunalo, Newton Ochieng, Kevin Mwangi, and Shamsi Ramadhan.

Having won 4-2 in the first leg and 1-0 in the reverse fixture last season, Naivas will be confident, but Fortune Sacco’s hunger for revenge could tilt the balance.

At Vapour Sports Grounds, Kibera Black Stars begin their sixth consecutive NSL campaign with a tricky tie against FC Talanta.

The Black Stars, who finished sixth last term with 55 points, are eyeing a serious push for promotion this season.

Standing in their way is Talanta, who are determined to bounce back immediately after a painful relegation from the FKF Premier League on the final day of last season. Both teams have a point to prove, setting up what should be an electrifying duel.

Newly promoted Kabati Youth FC will also taste life in the second tier as they square off against Vihiga United at Thika Stadium.

The Murang’a-based side sealed promotion after topping FKF Division One Zone A with 56 points and will be eager to make a strong first impression.

However, Vihiga United, seasoned campaigners in the NSL, will pose a stern test with their wealth of league experience.

Other fixtures will see Migori Youth host Mwatate United at Awendo Stadium, Nzoia Sugar welcome 3K FC at Sudi Stadium, while Luanda Villa take on Samwest Blackboots in another exciting contest at Mumboha Grounds.
