Seven clubs at only 22! Duran's whirlwind career doesn't care to settle

Few footballers have packed as much into the opening years of their career as Jhon Duran.

Still only 22, the Colombian striker has now joined his seventh club, completing another move in what has become one of football's most nomadic careers. Benfica have signed the former Aston Villa forward on a season-long loan from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the next season.

The Portuguese champions will pay a loan fee of €6.1 million (£5.19m), while a permanent transfer would cost another €30 million (£25.5m).

"I am happy! I continue to say that it is the biggest club in Portugal. I am very grateful to be here," Duran said after completing the move.

"I have very high expectations of being here. I want to play well, give my all and become champion."

Duran's career has already taken him across seven countries in just six years.

He burst onto the scene with Colombian side Envigado before moving to Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer in 2022. A year later, Aston Villa secured his signature for £14 million, and he soon established himself as one of the Premier League's most exciting young forwards.

His stock soared after scoring the winning goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, convincing Al-Nassr to spend £71 million to bring him to Saudi Arabia in January 2025.

But stability has proved elusive.

Despite netting eight goals in 13 appearances for Al-Nassr, Duran remained there for only six months before joining Fenerbahce on loan. His spell in Turkey barely had time to begin before Jose Mourinho was dismissed, prompting the cancellation of the deal and a switch to Zenit St Petersburg instead.

After scoring three goals in nine matches in Russia, the Colombian is on the move once again.

Benfica now become club number seven for a player who is still years away from his prime. The Portuguese giants will hope that, after a career defined by constant change, Duran has finally found a place where he can settle and fulfil the immense potential that has made him one of South America's most coveted strikers.
