The former Gor Mahia hitman, who joined the Phnom Penh-based outfit three months ago, had endured a lean spell in front of goal since his arrival from the FKF Premier League.
Despite showing flashes of promise, the 2023/24 FKFPL top scorer had struggled to replicate his prolific form until the evening of Saturday, 27 September.
In a dramatic clash against ISI Dangkor Senchey, Omala stepped up in decisive fashion.
With the match finely balanced at 2-2 deep into stoppage time, the 22-year-old forward struck clinically to seal a crucial 3-2 victory, sparking wild celebrations among the Visakha faithful.
The goal not only secured all three points but also lifted the weight of expectations that had been mounting on Omala's shoulders.
The former Western Stima forward's breakthrough strike was his first competitive goal since May 15, when he scored Gor Mahia’s lone consolation in a 2-1 defeat to Nairobi City Stars.
His return to the scoresheet could not have come at a more opportune moment for Visakha, who had survived a spirited second-half comeback from Dangkor before the Kenyan’s late intervention.
The win marked Visakha’s second triumph of the season, following an earlier 3-2 victory over Life FC. The result propelled them into fifth place on eight points, though still seven adrift of league leaders Svay Rieng, who top the 11-team standings with 15 points.
Having finished third last season, Visakha will be banking on Omala’s rediscovered scoring touch to mount a serious title challenge.
For the youthful striker, the goal may well prove the spark he needs to reassert himself as a consistent finisher and a vital figure in Visakha’s quest for their maiden Cambodian Premier League crown.
