The Bankers only needed a quarterfinal win to secure the overall circuit crown, and they did it the hard way, narrowly edging their rivals.
The result echoed the Driftwood 7s final earlier this season, where KCB also edged Strathmore 15-14.
Former Strathmore man George Ooro proved the difference-maker, tormenting his old side with two decisive tries that swung the tie in KCB’s favor.
KCB vs Strathmore
KCB drew first blood through Vincent Onyala, though the conversion went wide.
Strathmore hit back with a well-worked try under the posts by Brian Mwendwa, converted by Arnold Muita.
Ooro then showed his class, cutting through the Leos’ defense for KCB’s second try. Festus Shiasi missed the extras, keeping the score tight.
Strathmore refused to fold, with Samuel Wafula slicing through the KCB defense to restore their lead, and the successful conversion put them 14-10 ahead.
But Ooro was not done. The winger crossed again late in the contest, handing KCB a slender 15-14 win that sealed both a semifinal berth and the overall circuit title.
Kabras vs Nondies
Defending Dala 7s champions Kabras RFC booked their semifinal spot with a 19-5 victory over Nondescripts.
Matthias Osimbo opened the scoring before Tony Fidens replied for Nondies.
Eric Cantona and Kevin Wekesa added further tries for the Sugarmen, with Wekesa’s effort set up by Rayvon Ambale and William Mwanji. No points were scored in the second half as Kabras held firm.
Oilers vs Mwamba
Menengai Oilers were ruthless in their 36-5 dismantling of Mwamba. Beldad Ogeta powered over twice in the opening minutes, before John Okoth and Daniel Kipchirchir added to the tally.
Nelson Makhoha and Alvin Khavoli crossed in the second half, with Erick Ogutu contributing from the tee.
Mwamba’s consolation try came in the final minutes of the game.
Daystar Falcons vs Nakuru
Daystar Falcons edged a tight clash against Nakuru RFC 12-10.
Nakuru’s Cyprian Ombasso opened the scoring, but Falcons speedster Patrick Odongo replied with back-to-back tries to hand his side the halftime lead.
Ombasso struck again after the break, but a missed conversion proved costly as Daystar held on to progress.
