Kakamega Homeboyz have suffered another major setback ahead of the new season, after experienced defender Peter Thiong'o officially left the club following the expiry of his contract.
The former AFC Leopards captain has brought his spell at Abana Beingo to an end after his deal expired in July, with efforts to negotiate a contract extension failing to bear fruit.

Thiong'o was one of Homeboyz's most reliable performers during the 2025/26 campaign, making 32 appearances across all competitions, and playing a pivotal role in the club's defensive stability.
His consistency, leadership and versatility made him one of the first names on the team sheet throughout the season.
Sources indicate that the experienced defender is now on the verge of completing a move elsewhere, with three clubs, including a newly promoted FKF Premier League side, keen on securing his signature.
Beyond his defensive duties, Thiong'o has built a reputation as a utility player capable of operating at right-back, on the right wing, and in midfield, attributes that have made him an attractive target in the transfer market.
Confirming his departure, Thiong'o took to his social media account to bid farewell to the club.
"It was nice being part of the Kakamega Homeboyz family for two seasons," he wrote.
His departure adds to the growing list of senior players who have exited the Kakamega-based outfit during the current transfer window, underlining a significant rebuilding process at the club.
Among the notable departures is experienced midfielder Estone Esiye, who has completed a move to 2025 league champions Kenya Police FC.
Homeboyz have also lost last season's top scorer Oliver Majaka, further weakening a squad that impressed in the previous campaign.
Striker Henry Omollo has also moved on after sealing a transfer to Zambian Premier League side Mufulira Wanderers, while seasoned defender Boniface Onyango is edging closer to a switch to Tanzanian Premier League club Kagera Sugar.
Midfielder Joshua Nyatini has also left after seeing out his one-year contract, ending his stay with the club without agreeing fresh terms, while Ugandan international Shafik Batambuze has similarly departed after the expiry of his six-month short-term contract.
Despite the departures, Homeboyz have moved swiftly to reinforce the squad ahead of the new campaign.
The club has already secured the services of Boniface Omondi, Clain Imbayi, Timothy Ndayala, Brian Opondo, Ibrahim Joshua and Charles Momanyi as part of its rebuilding process.
