The race for the Atletico Madrid star continues, with Arsenal joining Barcelona in preparing a major offer to land the Argentine
Barcelona have spent the entire summer chasing Julián Alvarez, while Atletico Madrid have practically been making jokes about the speculation. The Argentine is reportedly unhappy with the situation and, after a World Cup match, even suggested that it would be best for everyone if he left Madrid and moved to Catalonia to fulfill his dream.
However, the saga is far from over. Barcelona continue to push for the striker, but they are no longer alone in the race. According to The Times, Arsenal have now entered the battle for Alvarez's signature.
The Gunners are preparing an ambitious move for the Argentine forward despite Atletico's firm stance that he is not for sale. Their proposal, however, could be difficult to ignore. Reports from England claim Arsenal are ready to offer €100 million plus Viktor Gyokeres as part of the deal.

If Atletico were willing to consider such an offer, Barcelona would likely struggle to compete. The Catalans' latest bid was worth €100 million, but Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin insisted that Alvarez would not leave for €100 million, €150 million, or even €200 million. Judging by those comments, Arsenal would appear to have little chance as well, but Alvarez's reported desire to leave could eventually force Atletico to soften their position.
Mikel Arteta is said to be determined to bring Alvarez to North London, so much so that he is willing to part ways with Gyokeres despite signing the Swedish striker only a year ago in a €75 million deal. Although Gyökeres endured a slow start to last season, he still impressed overall.
However, the arrival of Álvarez as Arsenal's marquee attacking star would inevitably change the Swede's role within the squad. Gyokeres scored 21 goals in 55 appearances for Arsenal last season, while the Argentine, nicknamed "The Spider," found the net 20 times in 49 matches.
Barcelona remain in the hunt and have no intention of giving up, but Arsenal now appear to have the stronger hand. The North London giants are preparing a blockbuster move, and it may not be long before we find out whether it becomes reality.
