Kabras Sugar RFC fullback Jackson Siketa is among the Kenyan quartet set to join the Rhinos' high-performance camp in Cape Town, South Africa that runs from January to May 2025.
Siketa has been a standout player since his days at Koyonzo High School, helping them to their maiden Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Rugby Sevens title in 2023. They became the first Kenyan side to achieve such a feat.
He also bagged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award at both the national and East African stage.
His impressive record saw him join the Kenya U20 national team; Chipu where his exploits continued.
The youngster was part of the team that won the 2024 Barthes Cup after defeating favorites Zimbabwe 28-13 to book a slot in the World Rugby U20 Trophy in Scotland.
Fresh from Scotland, where he showcased his skills on the international stage, Siketa was promptly included in Kabras RFC’s senior squad for the 2024 National Sevens Circuit.
He quickly made his mark, scoring three crucial tries that helped Kabras secure their first-ever Dala 7s title. His performance was instrumental in propelling the team to a second-place finish in the circuit.
He also played for Kenya Morans during the 2024 Safari Sevens to see them complete the podium. The high-performance camp will only sharpen his skills further.
Other players set to join the camp include David Williams (Kisumu/Kenya Morans), Andrew Matoka (Impala/Kenya Simbas) and Mwamba’s Dennis Ndayala (Chipu/Kenya Morans).
Kenya Sevens tactician Kevin Wambua wished the quartet all the best, expressing confidence in the program's role in boosting Shujaa's player development pathway.
“I wish the young lads all the best during their stay at Gordon’s Bay and we hope to have them back into our program as better athletes – not only physically, but also in their overall sevens rugby IQ," Wambua offered.
The camp's head of program Frankie Horne expressed his enthusiasm for giving Kenyan players the chance to cultivate their skills further.
“We have always been keen to assist Kenya achieve their atheletes’ potential and that is why we have always given opportunities to Kenyan girls and boys who are in the national team pathways to join our High Performance programs both in Gordon’s Bay South Africa and San Clement in LA," Horner, a former Springboks' hooker said.
Other notable names from Kenya who have undertaken the training program include Collins Shikoli and Alvin Marube who are based in the USA.
