Kenyan volleyball international Abiud Chirchir has landed a new deal in Saudi Arabia, joining Damac Club for the 2024/25 season.

The former General Service Unit (GSU) star joins from France where he featured since 2021, the opposite having signed for the French league from Tunisia’s Kelibia.

Chirchir, a Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) men’s league former Most Valuable Player (MVP), moves to the Western Asian side where he joins another Kenyan and former teammate Simeon ‘Kosirai’ Kipkorir who has since joined Abha Club, fourth-placed in the last season.

The announcement comes days after another Kenyan, Moses Sialo announced his move to Tunisia where he will feature for Mouloudia Sportive De Bou Salem, Kosirai’s former side in the North African country.

It was while in Tunisia that Kosirai, who is making a return to Saudi Arabia top tier league after featuring for Al Ibtisam in 2022, etched his name in history as the first Kenyan male player to clinch the Continental Club championship’s title and the best blocker award, followed by a silver medal in 2024.

Chirchir, a key part of the national men’s side Wafalme Stars, last played in the Kenyan league for GSU in the 2018/19 season.

He joins a growing list of Kenyan internationals making moves for the 2024/25 season with Wafalme Stars skipper Enock Mogeni also having extended his contract with Al Wasl Club in the UAE for another season, running until 16 May 2025.
