Before being crowned MVP, the Ghanaian midfielder had also won the Midfielder of the Year award, which he equally dedicated to the former statesman.
Newly crowned FKF Premier League 2025/26 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Enock Morrison has explained why he chose to dedicate the prestigious award to former Gor Mahia patron Raila Odinga.
Odinga, who was also a former Prime Minister of Kenya, died on October 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy as one of the country's most influential political leaders and one of the greatest supporters of Gor Mahia and Kenyan football.
Speaking at the FKF Premier League Gala Awards held on Thursday, June 4, at a Nairobi hotel, the Gor Mahia star walked to the podium carrying a portrait of Odinga and explained why he felt compelled to honour him.
“I dedicated the award to him because he remains one of the biggest figures on the continent. I was privileged to know him, meet him, talk to him and even receive financial support from him. He was also a very integral figure at Gor Mahia and supported us immensely,” said Morrison.
Before being crowned MVP, the Ghanaian midfielder had also won the Midfielder of the Year award, which he equally dedicated to the former statesman.
Odinga's special place in the hearts of the K’Ogalo fraternity also influenced Morrison’s decision to honour him during the gala.
“He is a figure that our players, fans and everyone at the club deeply identify with, and I thought it was the right thing to do,” he added.
On October 3, 2025, just 12 days before his death, Odinga donated a whopping KSh10 million to Gor Mahia to support the club’s activities. The club later reciprocated the gesture by taking the league trophy to his widow, Mama Ida Odinga.
For Morrison and Gor Mahia, attention will now shift to preparations for their CAF Champions League campaign.
