Will the Africans use the heat as an advantage?

Bafana Bafana need to win in the last round but with a terrible weather conditions

South Africa ranks 123rd on the worldwide list of the most hottest countries on the planet with an average of 18.58 degrees average per year. South Korea is not far behind, as they sit on 139th place with 13.32. But what really matters is the hottest time of the year, January and February, when the average is between 25-30C in South Africa which is actually similar as South Korea, in July, their hottest month of the year. Still, Bafana Bafana boss believes that the advantage over extreme heat might lay with the players from the African continent as he prepares for a crucial game against Korea.

After two games, two bad displays and only one point, South Africans need to win against South Korea if they want to advance to the knockout phase. On top of their bad form, they need to deal with weather conditions, which is another problem. Unlike their previous base, which was high-altitude Pachuca, Bafana Bafana players came to Monterrey, where the temperatures are 33C and 28C during the evening, but with a lot of humidity.

The climate conditions here are very hot and really difficult to adapt to. Even during my playing days, I could not adapt to this kind of weather and I always struggled to perform in it. However, because South Africa are an African team, perhaps we can endure and adapt to these conditions more easily. Tomorrow, we will see which team adapts best. It is extremely exhausting. Travelling from Mexico City to Atlanta and then to Monterrey, dealing with jet lag and constant movement, is a very demanding schedule. It is certainly not easy, but these are the rules of the World Cup and we must adapt” said Broos.
