The Ghanaian midfielder completed a move from K’Ogalo to Sudanese giants Al Merrikh SC on Sunday, 21 June, throwing Gor Mahia’s preparations for the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) into disarray.

Morrison established himself as a vital cog in Gor Mahia's well-oiled machine, anchoring the midfield to provide balance, dictate tempo, initiate attacks and most importantly, screen the defense.

With K’Ogalo now looking within and beyond borders for the former Asante Kotoko midfielder's replacement, Mozzart Sport takes a look at some of the six players from FKFPL that the Kenyan giants can turn to.

Musa Oundo

For a long time, Gor Mahia and especially their supporters have been admirers of Musa Oundo, who turns out for their arch-rivals, AFC Leopards.

Oundo has earned respect from K'Ogalo fans due to his consistent and exemplary performances at the heart of the Ingwe midfield and especially during the Mashemeji Derby.

His disciplined positional play, crunching tackles, ability to keep the ball and initiate attacks are some of the attributes that have endeared him to rival fans.

With continental assignments awaiting, Gor Mahia will be keen to procure an experienced replacement for Morrison, and while rivalry may complicate the transfer, the 22-time league champions would be over the moon to sign Oundo, who might be lured by the opportunity to play in the CAF Champions League.

Brian Mzee

The midfielder has been a revelation for the 2025 Mozzart Bet Cup champions, Nairobi United, establishing himself as a dependable player as the club made their debut in both the FKF Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup (CAF CC).

Signed from Nairobi City Stars, Mzee proved his worth on the continental stage, where his partnership in midfield alongside Lesley Otieno and Enock Machaka propelled the club to reach the CAF CC group stage.

Having battled some of the best midfielders in Africa in the CAFCC, his experience would be beneficial for Gor Mahia in their quest to reach the CAF CL group stage.

Unlike Oundo, Mzee is out of contract at Nairobi United and could be a better catch as they would land him for free. However, to win his signature, K’Ogalo must beat stiff competition from Kenya Police FC, who are already pursuing him.

Charles Ouma

Ouma is another CDM who is tried and tested both locally and internationally and could be suitable for Gor Mahia’s needs.

The South Sudan international has competed in both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup over the past two seasons and is therefore well aware of the demands needed.

With Kenya Police FC failing to qualify for continental football, Gor Mahia can explore the possibility of acquiring Ouma, whose physical presence will also be an added advantage to the squad.

Chris Erambo

Tusker FC ace Chris Erambo is undoubtedly one of the best defensive midfielders in the league.

The Kibera-born and bred man has had a sharp rise, culminating in being part of coach Benni McCarthy's consistent members of the Harambee Stars squad.

While Erambo experienced a dip in form in the just-concluded season with stakeholders questioning his fitness, his quality has never been in doubt, making him a possible replacement for Morrison.

Biron Otieno

Shabana FC midfielder Biron Otieno is yet another CDM who has proven his worth in the league and is an option that the Charles Akonnor-coached side can turn to.

Despite not having international or continental football exposure, Otieno’s ability in the FKFPL makes him a good option for Gor Mahia.

While he has a small physical frame, his ability to keep the ball even under pressure, resist press and dictate play are attributes that may be beneficial to Gor Mahia.

Lawrence Juma

While many eyes will be fixed on external replacements, Gor Mahia might also look internally and opt for the experienced Lawrence Juma.

Juma has had a tough season at Gor Mahia that has been rocked by injuries and limited game time, but whenever he was called upon, he showcased his quality.

While he is not a natural CDM, he has been deployed in that deeper role to exploit his ability on the ball to launch attacks from deep inside Gor Mahia’s half.
