Sofapaka baying for Police blood in round seven

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 21.10.23. | 08:10

The former champions are yet to win a game this season

Sofapaka will be looking to bag maximum points for the first time in the season when they play host to Kenya Police on Saturday at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos County.

For the first time in over three years, an FKF-PL game will be staged at Machakos Stadium.

The venue last hosted a league match before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former champions have a draw to show in the opening six rounds of the season and will head to Machakos, hoping to floor the police and start their march from the rock bottom of the log.

It will not be a walk in the park for Sofapaka, as police seem to have gotten their winning mojo back under Croatian tactician Zdravko Logarusic, who has a 100 percent winning record since taking over.

However, Sofapaka coach Ezekiel Akwana says they have their guns trained for shooting down police, recent form for both sides notwithstanding.

While calling on fans to show up in large numbers and back the team, as well as celebrate the return of top-flight matches in Machakos, Akwana expressed confidence in the training sessions they have had during the FIFA break and the willingness of the playing unit to deliver.

"We have to win this match if we are to get ourselves from the bottom; we have had ample training time, and morale is high at the camp; hence, we expect a win tomorrow. My players are more than ready for the task ahead. We urge our fans to come and support Kenyatta Stadium,” said Akwana in an interview with club media.

Since taking over Police, Logarusic has led the club to two wins against Nairobi City Stars and Bidco United, as the law enforcers beat the two in 1-0 and 2-0 scorelines, respectively.

Sofapaka's record against Police doesn't inspire confidence, as the former champions have lost once in the last four meetings and drawn in the other three matches.

Akwana started his second stint with Sofapaka on the wrong footing as the club fell 2-0 to league debutants Murang'a Seal.

The tactician will hope to secure the first win over the police and his maiden since taking over this weekend.
