Posta clash with Talanta as league action resumes after FIFA break

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 21.10.23. | 08:01

Talanta have demonstrated their giant-killing traits in the past. Will they stop Posta from going seven points clear?

Log leaders Posta Rangers will hope to go seven points clear at the summit of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League when they play FC Talanta at the Ruaraka Grounds on Saturday.

Posta were on top of their game before the league took a break to pave the way for the FIFA international week, as the mailmen had registered five successive wins to place them at the top.

Before the break, the John Kamau-coached side had beaten Nzoia Sugar 2-0 to open a four-point gap between them and the second-placed Gor Mahia.

With the record champions not in action on Saturday, Posta will aim to skin Talanta alive and widen the rift between them and the chasing pack.

It will not be an easy task for Posta given Talanta’s stubbornness and their giant-killing instincts, which they have demonstrated from time to time.

Talanta have played six matches, just like Posta, and won once, drawn four times, and lost the remaining fixture.

Kenneth Kenyatta’s charges held Kakamega Homeboyz to a thrilling 3-3 draw in their last outing, with all their goals being scored by Erick Ombija.

That will not be the only isolated fixture of the day, as KCB are scheduled to host four-time league winners, Ulinzi Stars, at the Kasarani Stadium.

The bankers took maximum points from Muhoroni Youth in their last game that wasn’t short of drama as the duel was abandoned deep into stoppage time.

The league managers would go on to award three points to KCB and two goals, even though, before chaos erupted, the visitors were leading by a goal.

Ulinzi, on the other hand, beat Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 in their last game, courtesy of Enosh Ochieng, who kissed the back of the net in the second half.

Meanwhile, the 2009 league winners, Sofapaka, will hope their return to Machakos will be fruitful when they play Kenya Police at Kenyatta Stadium.

Sofapaka used to host home matches in Machakos a few seasons ago and elected to return to the venue, which hasn’t been in use by top-flight teams since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sofapaka are yet to win a game this season, while Police have been on a roll since the time Croatian tactician Zdravko Logarusic took over.
