The league-winning tactician joined APS Bomet on 31 December 2025, replacing Michael Nam who had left the club in November

APS Bomet head coach Samuel 'Pamzo' Omollo can afford a smile after bagging his first win at the club, following their 2-1 win over Nairobi United on Wednesday at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Since taking over on 31 December 2025, Pamzo had led the league debutants in four matches before Wednesday's, all ending unfavourably.

He began his tenure with a 1-1 draw against Mara Sugar FC, before collapsing late to fall 2-1 to AFC Leopards in their subsequent match.

Bomet staged one of the incredible comebacks of the season, rallying from down to hold Shabana to a 3-3 and lost 2-1 to Murang'a Seal over the weekend.

Their encounter against fellow debutants, Nairobi United, was viewed as a potential banana skin clash, given their opponent's desire to redeem themselves after a disappointing show in continental action over the weekend as well.

However, the visitors produced a spirited and disciplined display to collect maximum points, which will go a long way in their quest to beat the drop.

The match kicked off at a blistering yet cautious pace, with both teams probing for an early advantage.

Nairobi United were the first to threaten inside the opening exchanges through Benson Omalla, who combined neatly with his younger brother Duncan Omalla, but the former Gor Mahia talisman’s effort sailed inches over the bar.

The Nairobi-based side continued to dictate possession and came close again six minutes later when Enock Machaka latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Brian Mzee, only for his attempted volley to narrowly miss the target.

APS Bomet gradually grew into the game and registered their first real threat two minutes before the quarter-hour mark.

Philip Wasai rose highest to meet a pinpoint delivery from Festus Kipkemboi, but his powerful header agonisingly missed the upright.

Moments later, Nairobi United threatened once more through the lively Duncan Omalla, who burst down the right flank and beat his marker before firing into the side-netting from close range.

Despite Nairobi’s dominance, it was Bomet who struck against the run of play.

Nine minutes before the half-hour mark, a swift counter-attack caught Nairobi exposed, allowing Antony Naibei to calmly slot home and break the deadlock, handing the visitors a deserved lead.

APS Bomet nearly doubled their advantage in the 27th minute when Hillary Otieno, set up by Wasai, blasted his effort wide after finding space inside the box.

Nairobi United responded with renewed urgency and came close to restoring parity just three minutes later, but Machaka’s goal-bound strike was acrobatically tipped away by an alert Bob Cetric.

The goalkeeper was called into action again moments before the break, producing another fine save to deny Benson Omalla’s thumping header as Bomet held firm to take a narrow lead into the interval.

After the restart, Nairobi United emerged with intent in search of an immediate response.

Kevin Otiende tested Cetric early on, chesting down a delivery from Lennox Ogutu before firing a low drive that forced another sharp intervention from the Bomet shot-stopper.

Three minutes before the hour mark, coach Omollo introduced Dickson Mwangi in place of goal scorer Naibei, a change that paid instant dividends.

Just four minutes later, Mwangi found the back of the net to double Bomet’s advantage and silence the Nyayo crowd.

Trailing by two goals, Nairobi United threw numbers forward in search of a comeback.

They came close through Machaka, but his effort was heroically cleared off the line by Edward Masembe.

Sustained pressure finally paid off sixteen minutes from time when Muhadjiri Hakizimana reacted quickest to a well-laid ball from Omalla to pull a goal back and hand Nairobi a lifeline.

The title hopefuls continued to press for an equaliser in the closing stages, with Ogutu’s header narrowly missing the target, but APS Bomet defended resolutely to see out the match and claim a much-needed victory.
