The former Kenya Under-20 international joins the team after impressing in previous club stints and national youth setups, where his vision, composure, and game intelligence earned him recognition.

Wangaya has already linked up with the first team and will be available for selection pending league registration formalities.

Announcing the signing, Nairobi United said, “We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Nairobi United family. He is a player we have tracked for some time; his ability to control the tempo of the game and his experience at the international youth level bring a new dimension to our squad.

This signing underlines our commitment to blending young, hungry talent with proven technical ability.”

Speaking at his unveiling, Wangaya expressed excitement about the move and confidence in the club’s project. “Nairobi United has a very clear project and a winning mentality that aligns with my personal goals. I am ready to give my best for the badge and help the team achieve its objectives and for the fans.”

Wangaya had been without a club since leaving FK Apolonia Fier in Albania, prompting questions among Kenyan football fans about the trajectory of a player who once showed immense promise.

He started his football journey at Ligi Ndogo SC before moving to FKF Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks in 2022.

In January 2024, he joined Albanian second-tier side Apolonia Fier for a short stint before returning home to Ligi Ndogo.

Internationally, Wang’aya has represented Kenya at Under-15, Under-17, Under-18, and Under-20 levels.

He was part of the Kenya U18 team, the Junior Stars, that finished runners-up at the CECAFA U18 Boys Championship behind Uganda.

He also featured in the Kenya U20 squad at the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he scored against Nigeria, was named Man of the Match, and earned a spot in the tournament’s group-stage Best XI.

The signing of Wangaya is part of a wider recruitment drive at Nairobi United, which has seen several additions aimed at strengthening the squad.

Roy Okal has joined from Sofapaka to reinforce the midfield, while John Njuguna arrived from Tusker to inject pace and creativity in wide and attacking areas.

Rwandan left-sided attacker Hakizimana Muhadjiri also joined earlier in the window, providing versatility in the final third.

The club’s high-profile acquisitions are completed by striker Benson Omala, as well as Titus Ssematimba and Charles Waibi.
