Onyango returned from injury at the start of the season having spending about nine months on the sidelines nursing a knee injury sustained in January.

The former Kariobangi Sharks man returned to action on 28 September in the second leg of Police’s CAF Champions League (CAFCL) match against Mogadishu City Club (MCC), replacing Omar at left back.

With the Harambee Stars 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) captain still missing, Onyango also started the Law Enforcers’ first league match of the season against military side Ulinzi Stars.

Speaking to the press after the match which ended in a barren draw, Onyango revealed what it takes to play ahead of his senior.

“It is a big challenge but I am ready for it. It is also a learning process. He is more experienced and I am also learning a lot from him,” said Omar.

Onyango, who can also play on the left wing, went ahead to offer comparisons between his former employers, Sharks and the FKF Premier League defending champions.

The environment is different and the players' mentality is different. They (Police)want to win everything and so you have to adapt to win. It is a big club and I am here to fight and help the team win titles,” he stated.

Further, Onyango, who has two national team caps to his name also, expressed his delight in returning from the sidelines, opening up on his rehabilitation journey.

"It is a great feeling. It has been long and I thank God that I am back. The hardest part is rehabilitation which demands that you be mentally strong and consistent.

I am young and so I had the motivation to come back and play again which made me push myself,” he added.
