Police also created history by winning their second successive title in what was also their second season in the top tier.

The law enforcers will begin their title defense with a match against WPL newbies Kayole Starlets at Utalii Grounds from 1300 hrs.

For Police, the match will also mark the beginning of life without their former head coach Beldine Odemba who parted ways with the club after failing to secure a place in the CAF Women's Champions League group stage.

In her place, Police raided rivals Kibera Soccer Women and signed coach David Vijago to take over the tutelage of the team as unveiled on Wednesday 1 October.

Speaking to the press after his unveiling, Vijago explained the value he intends to add to the Police team.

“Apart from ensuring that we retain the league, I will also ensure that we win the FKF Women's Cup and play attractive football. After that, we also want to play with the best teams in the continent by qualifying for the Champions League,” said Vijago.

Kayole Starlets, on the other hand, will be hoping to continue with their stellar performance in the Women National Super League (WNSL) that eventually saw them earn promotion.

The team’s head coach Mary Adhiambo exuded confidence in her team’s preparations while also elucidating the team’s season target.

“Kenya Police Bullets are good, that's why they are the champions but we are prepared for the match.

Last season we struggled a little bit to regain our top-tier status, but this season in the premier league, our main objective is to play at the top level and if possible finish among the top five in the standings," Adhiambo told Citizen Digital.

At the Marist University in Karen, the highly anticipated clash between Ulinzi Starlets and Kibera Soccer Women will take place from 1400 hrs.

This match brings together two of the best teams from last season; Ulinzi finished second. the WPL log while Kibera who led the table for the better part of the season finished third but won the FKF Cup.

Ulinzi will be keen to start the season on a high unlike last season which in the end cost them the league.

The military side have also set their eyes on reclaiming the league title and coach Collins Ochieng will be keen to specifically have a good first leg before losing some members of her team to military training.

Kibera, on the other hand, will begin the journey without Vijago, who had spent four years at the helm of the club.

The club appointed veteran tactician George Robert ‘Bob’ Okallo as their new head coach, and will be tasked with winning the title which begins with a match against Ulinzi.

Elsewhere, varsity side Zetech Sparks will begin their season with a league match against Kisped Queens at Zetech University Mang’u Campus from 1300 hrs.

Zetech will be out to better the sixth position where they finished last season and the journey begins with today's fixture.

“Last season was good—we performed better and the girls gave their all. This season, we want to be better. Everyone is a worthy opponent, but we are prepared,” head coach Harriet Fakhir told The Star.

Fakhir will be banking on her new signings in Marveline Guyo, Susan Akoth, Monica Nyakoa, Claire Mabwire and Florida Ngue to bring new energy in steering her ship.

“Those we’ve added bring value and fuel to Zetech. They’ve raised competition in the squad, and that makes us stronger,” she added.

Kisped, on the other hand, dangled with relegation, but in the end ,survived. They will be out to avoid that ordeal.

In the other match of the day, Trinity Starlets will welcome lakeside outfit Kisumu All Starlets in a match that will be played at the Comboni Polytechnic Grounds in Gilgil from 1300 hrs.
