
Millions Gor Mahia pocketed from visit to club patron

Hardly a day after the Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya made a surprise visit to a Gor Mahia training session at the Nyayo National Stadium and handed the team Kshs 300,000, former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has further fattened the club’s purse with a Kshs 10 million.

The financial boom came after the club’s management, led by the chairman, Ambrose Rachier, paid a visit to Odinga on Friday, 3 October as confirmed by thethe club through their social media handles.
“An incredible visit to our Patron, Hon. Raila Odinga and Mama Ida Odinga's home in Karen, the club management had a good time.
In a demonstration of his unwavering commitment and truly generous gesture, our Patron presented the club with a monumental gift of Kshs 10 million to support administrative functions. We are deeply grateful to our Patron and his family,” read a post from the club.
In perspective, the amount is double the amount that Kenya Police FC were supposed to receive in the 2024/25 season for winning the FKF Premier League.
The money is also two thirds of the Kshs 15 million that will be won by the league champion this season after the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) tripled the prize money.
While the club did not reveal how they are going to utilize the money, many expect the a chunk of the cash to aid in paying match bonuses, as well as operations such as match day logistics and football equipment.
After ending the last season trophyless and missing out on continental football, the record 21-time league champions are hoping to get it right this season.
The club has had a mixed start to the season, losing their opening match against Bidco United before beating Sofapaka 2-0 in their second match.
K’Ogalo are set to face KCB on Sunday, 5 October at the Dondora Stadium from 3 pm.
