The record Kenyan champions were stunned 1-0 by fifth-tier side BB Bread in a dramatic Round of 32 clash played at Nyayo National Stadium.
Speaking in a rare public appearance after the defeat, the veteran football administrator disclosed that the club leadership immediately convened internal talks in an effort to understand what went wrong.
In an interview with Gor Mahia Fan TV, Rachier admitted that both the result and the team’s performance had left the club deeply concerned.
“I have already spoken to the players and the technical bench so that they can help us understand what exactly led to the loss,” Rachier said.
“We may not be football experts, but we can clearly see that this was not very good football. We are not happy with the result or with the manner in which we played.”
Rachier explained that the club leadership has asked the team to provide clarity on whether any underlying issues may have contributed to the disappointing display.
“We asked them to tell us if there is anything that may have caused this and whether there is something we as leaders need to rectify,” he added.
While acknowledging that football occasionally produces unlikely outcomes, the K'Ogalo boss insisted the defeat could not simply be dismissed as an upset.
Rachier noted that the team’s overall form in recent matches has also raised concern.
“Sometimes the result may not reflect the way a team has played, but when I look at the performance today (Sunday), and even in the previous game, I was not satisfied,” he said.
“If we lose after giving our best performance, it is easier to accept. But when the performance itself is below expectations, then we must ask questions.”
The chairman stressed the importance of addressing the issues early before the situation worsens, particularly after the club endured a trophyless season last year, which led to the dismissal of the entire technical bench.
“We must deal with the concerns that are leading to the kind of results we are getting,” he explained.
“We must address them while things are still manageable, before we reach a point where we cannot explain what is happening. We are proud to be 21-time league champions, and we must live up to that standard.”
