Following the draw, Gor Mahia's advantage at the summit of the table now remains five points, with their arch-rivals AFC Leopards breathing down their necks as only eight games remain till curtains come falling on the season.
The result enabled Sharks to leapfrog Ulinzi Stars on the log after the Soldiers suffered a 1-0 defeat to fellow relegation candidates APS Bomet in a match played earlier in the day.
The match kicked off at a relatively high tempo, both teams trying to use quick restarts and transitions to find an opener, but neither was successful in the opening five minutes.
Sharks had a half chance in the seventh minute when Stephen Mbulere lofted a cross that almost found David Majak, but Frank Odhiambo was quick to react and arrest the danger.
The match soon opened up, and in the 10th minute, Gor Mahia wasted an opportunity to open the score when Shariff Musa dribbled past Ian Karani and laid a cross that found Samuel Kapen in the six-yard box, but he could only direct his shot over the bar.
Mbulere had Sharks' first opportunity in the 12th minute when he was fed by Humphrey Aroko, but his effort was saved by Gad Mathews with the ball returning to play.
The match, which was now open, saw the next chance fall to David Majak, who astonishingly tapped wide with an empty net gaping inside the six-yard area.
Sharks, who were now having a decent spell on the ball, had another chance in the 15th minute when Victor Ngume was put through by Aroko, floated in a cross, but Majak was nowhere near the enticing ball.
K’Ogalo, who were struggling to find their usual tempo, had an opportunity on transition in the 25th minute, but Musa’s pass to Alpha Onyango was too strong as the chance went begging.
Gor had another chance to break the deadlock in the 35th minute when Ebenezer Adukwaw took a free kick from 25 yards, but it was deflected for a corner that was wasted.
The Green Army, who were now restless and impatient from the stands, made their frustrations known, calling for Kapen to be rested after several misplaced passes.
Gor Mahia survived a scare in the 39th minute when Dwang' was dispossessed by Aroko, who released Keagan Ndemi, who then dribbled inside the box and unleashed a shot that forced Mathews into a brilliant save.
Sharks were back at it again in the 45th minute, this time Zablon Kutera overlapping before unleashing a strike that saw Mathews make a fingertip save.
With the fourth official signalling three minutes of added time, Ebenezer Adukwaw put Kapen through on goal, but before the latter could pull the trigger, Kevinluke Otiala reacted quickly and blocked the strike for a corner that did not yield any significant result.
The last action of the first half saw Gor break on a quick transition, but Musa went for glory instead of passing to the several green shirts around him.
In the second half, Gor Mahia had the first big opportunity in the 48th minute when Musa beat the Sharks' offside trap, unleashed a shot that was saved by Sebastian Wekesa, with the rebound falling to Adukwaw, who shot wide.
Sharks had to wait until the hour mark for their first opportunity of the closing half when Mbulere dribbled past Bryton Onyona, but Aroko, who was in acres of space inside the box, could not control the pass.
Gor had chances in quick succession in the 65th minute when Morrison shot wide before Adukwaw forced Wekesa into a save, but Dwang' could only find the side netting from the rebound.
In a bid to find a winner, Gor Mahia introduced Ebenezer Assifuah and Ben Stanley for Kapen and Adukwaw in the 66th minute.
The frustration from the stands kept growing as Gor fans jeered every delayed move or pass by the players.
The 21-time record champions once again saw a chance go begging as Alpha’s 86th-minute free kick found the target but was well saved by Wekesa.
With five minutes added to the clock, K’Ogalo pushed more numbers forward in an all-out attack to find a winner, but their efforts could not pay off as Sharks held on with their dear lives to ensure the match ended in a barren draw.
With the result, Gor Mahia moved to 57 points and could see their lead cut to two points if AFC Leopards win their Sunday, 5 April, match against Murang'a Seal.
Sharks, on the other hand, rose to 14th on the log with 26 points, one more than Ulinzi Stars and APS Bomet in the relegation zone.
