The total prize pool up for grabs in the league ahead of the 2025/26 season will stand at Ksh20 million - a quadruple of the Ksh5 million that had been allocated previously to the top-tier.
The winner of the league will now receive a total of Ksh15 million, which represents a 200% increase from the Ksh5 million that was initially given to champions.
Additionally, the second and third placed teams will also receive a share of the prize money as FKF has allocated Ksh3 million and Ksh2 million respectively to them.
The good news was revealed by FKF President Hussein Mohammed during the launch of the new league season on Tuesday, 16 September.
“When we were elected into office eight months ago. I promised the clubs that we will significantly increase the league’s prize money.
Today, I am happy to announce an increase in the league's prize money to Ksh20 million beginning this season.
Ksh15 million will go to the winner while Ksh5 million will be distributed to the second and third-ranked teams,” said Mohammed.
Apart from the prize money, FKF also announced that Premier League clubs will receive 60% of the league’s title sponsorship.
These amounts will be topped up by the money clubs receive from Azam TV, who have been the league’s broadcaster for the last two seasons.
Speaking after the announcement, Mathare United CEO Jecton Obure lauded the financial boost that the league will receive, noting that it will greatly reduce the financial burden of the clubs.
“As clubs, we are grateful for the amount. Running a club is quite expensive. You will need about 65 million to run a top-tier club, and the prize money will take some burden off clubs,” said Obure.
The 2025/26 FKF Premier League season will kick off on Friday, 19 September with a match between KCB FC and Tusker FC at the Nyayo National Stadium from 1800 hrs.
