Goals from Oliver Majaka, Samuel Odaro, and Henry Omollo underlined the hosts’ dominance in a match that also saw them avenge their 2-0 defeat from the first leg against the Slum Boys.
Heading into the encounter, Homeboyz were keen to narrow the gap on second-placed AFC Leopards, while Mathare United, languishing in 13th place, were equally desperate for points in their bid to steer clear of the relegation zone.
The match began at a lively tempo, with both sides showing early attacking intent.
Homeboyz threatened inside the opening minutes through their leading scorer, Oliver Majaka, who latched onto a well-delivered ball from John Omondi, but his effort was blocked by Ian Omondi.
Mathare United responded swiftly and nearly took the lead moments later when Paul Kinyanjui connected with a teasing delivery from Isaac Omweri, only to see his effort crash against the woodwork, much to the relief of the home supporters.
The breakthrough arrived in the 12th minute, as Homeboyz capitalised on sustained pressure.
A well-orchestrated move involving John Omondi and Peter Thiong’o culminated in a clever backheel finish from Majaka, who calmly slotted home to give the hosts a deserved lead.
The visitors continued to push for an equaliser, with John Mark Makwatta coming close after racing onto a low delivery, but goalkeeper Ibrahim Wanzala produced a timely intervention to deny him.
Homeboyz remained dangerous going forward, with Eston Omengo nearly doubling the lead with an audacious long-range attempt that forced goalkeeper Kevin Ouru into a recovery save.
Mathare, however, continued to threaten on the counter, with chances falling to Isaac Omweri and Kinyanjui, though both failed to hit the target.
As the first half progressed, the hosts maintained control, creating further opportunities through Shafik Batambuze and Brian Ochieng, while Wanzala remained alert to deny late Mathare advances.
Homeboyz headed into the break holding a slender but deserved 1-0 lead.
Upon resumption, the hosts returned with renewed determination, immediately pressing for a second goal.
Substitutes Samuel Odaro and Glen Masava injected fresh energy, testing Ouru early in the second half.
Majaka came close to doubling his tally in the 50th minute after a well-weighted pass from Rodgers Ouma, but he failed to capitalise from close range.
Mathare had a chance to level matters shortly after, but Makwatta slipped at a crucial moment, allowing Wanzala to comfortably deal with the threat.
Homeboyz eventually doubled their advantage at the hour mark through substitute Samuel Odaro.
Latching onto a precise through ball from Masava, Odaro showed composure to round the goalkeeper before slotting home, putting the hosts firmly in control.
The Kakamega-based side continued to dominate proceedings, with Ouru forced into multiple saves to keep Mathare in the contest.
Despite occasional attempts from Mathare, including a promising run from Musa Masika, the visitors struggled to convert their chances.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 77th minute when Henry Omollo capitalised on a loose ball at the edge of the box, weaving past defenders before firing a low shot past Ouru to seal a comprehensive 3-0 victory.
Homeboyz continued to press for more goals in the closing stages, but Mathare’s defense held firm to prevent further damage.
Late efforts from the visitors failed to spark a comeback, as the hosts comfortably saw out the match.
The victory marks Kakamega Homeboyz’ 12th win of the campaign, lifting them to 45 points and into third place on the league standings, strengthening their ambitions for a strong finish.
For Mathare United, the defeat represents their 12th loss of the season, leaving them rooted in 13th place on 30 points, with their battle for survival still very much unresolved.
