The former Gor Mahia, Harambee Stars, Bandari FC and Kariobangi Sharks goalkeeper takes up a head coach role for the first time in his career. His appointment was confirmed by the academy through a statement on social media.
“We are proud to officially unveil Mr Fredrick Jerim Onyango as the Head Coach of Rophine Titans Academy,” read part of the club’s statement.
The academy cited Onyango’s vast experience as a key factor in their decision, highlighting his successful playing career and the knowledge he has gained as both a club and national team trainer.
“A former Harambee Stars goalkeeper and long-serving Gor Mahia FC captain, Mr Onyango brings with him a wealth of elite playing, leadership and coaching experience.
His career spans the highest levels of Kenyan football, including service with Bandari FC and Kenya’s youth and senior national teams, where he has been instrumental in nurturing young talent,” the statement added.
Rophine Titans noted that his appointment is aimed at strengthening their academy programs, improving performance and instilling discipline among players.
“This appointment marks a significant milestone in strengthening our Enrichment Department and Academy Programmes as we scale performance, discipline and competitive readiness across all our campuses.
We are confident that under his leadership, our learners will grow into disciplined, confident and well-rounded individuals,” the club said.
Onyango will quickly turn his attention to an international assignment, with the academy set to participate in the Elite Schools Tournament in Dubai next month.
“As he settles into his new role, his first major assignment will be to prepare the team for the Elite Schools Tournament in Dubai, scheduled for March 29 to April 3, 2026,” the academy confirmed.
Meanwhile, Sofapaka CEO Herbert Kunga admitted the club was surprised by Onyango’s departure but wished him well.
“We did not expect him to leave at this stage of the season, but now that he has made his decision, we can only wish him the best at his new workstation.
As a club, we will begin the process of recruiting his replacement in the coming days,” Kunga told the media.
