The two players were seen exchanging pleasantries at the end of Nairobi United’s CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) clash against Moroccan giants Wydad AC on Sunday, 8 February at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The match ended 1-0 in favour of Wydad, courtesy of an 89th-minute goal by former Sevilla forward Wissam Ben Yedder.

Speaking to sports journalist Belvin Omondi after the match, Omalla, who started the encounter, revealed a special gift from Amrabat.

“After the game, he (Amrabat) called me over and handed me his jersey. He told me that he really liked the goal I scored against Azam FC,” said Omalla.

“He encouraged me to keep doing what I am doing and to continue working hard on the pitch. I have not decided what I will do with the jersey yet, but I will definitely frame it,” he added.

The goal in question came in the first leg of Naibois’ clash against Azam FC on Sunday, 25 January, when Omalla received a pass from the right flank by Michael Karamor and, on a first touch, curled his strike past the goalkeeper to break the deadlock in a match that they eventually lost 2-1.

The former Manyatta United forward admitted to having been surprised by the kind gesture of the elder brother to former Manchester United defender Sofyan Amrabat.

“I honestly did not expect it, considering how big he is in the game. He has played football all over the world, from one continent to the other, so for him to make such a gesture really surprised me.”

The 19-year-old is enjoying a sensational run of form this season, impressing for the Mozzart Bet Cup defending champions, including scoring their only CAFCC group stage goal, a feat he did not expect at such a young age.

“I appreciate the coach and my teammates for trusting me and pushing me to be able to play at such a high level that I did not expect at this point in my career.”
