The engagement, held in Nairobi from Monday, 13 to Wednesday, 15 October, focused on aligning Kenya’s youth football systems with FIFA’s global TDS framework.
During the visit, Mr. Chibsah worked closely with the FKF Technical Department to review existing player pathways, identify key areas for improvement, and design a roadmap for long-term elite player development.
The collaboration is expected to help FKF implement a sustainable, data-driven approach to nurturing football talent across the country.
FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme (TDS) seeks to raise the standard of national team football globally by providing a structured framework for identifying, training, and developing young players.
Its main objectives include building sustainable talent pathways, establishing high-quality academies, supporting expert coaching, and integrating education for holistic player growth.
How the TDS works:
• Expert guidance: FIFA deploys high-performance specialists and Talent Coaches to work directly with member associations in implementing long-term development plans.
• Infrastructure and resources: The scheme provides technical and financial support to establish FIFA Talent Academies and other facilities for world-class training.
• Knowledge exchange: Programs like the Coaches Exchange enable technical staff to share insights and improve development strategies across countries.
• Standardisation and best practices: The TDS promotes a unified approach to talent development, aligning local programs with global best practices and setting minimum standards for academies.
Speaking after the workshop, FKF Football Development Director Francis Kimanzi said:
“This visit has given our technical team a clear blueprint for developing Kenya’s future talent in line with FIFA’s global standards.
We appreciate the continued support from FIFA in helping us strengthen our structures and align our development strategies for long-term success.”
This latest engagement adds to a growing list of FIFA-led initiatives in Kenya. Earlier this year, FIFA conducted an induction program for newly elected FKF officials, and just last month, it organised a young referees’ course aimed at preparing the next generation of match officials for continental and global assignments.
