For decades, the club has been planning to build an ultramodern stadium in a bid to grow to an even higher level.
While the proposal has largely been reduced to talks, the club looks set to kickstart action after announcing the renowned GSM Company Limited as the winner of the bid to construct the landmark project.
While the club did not announce the other companies that submitted their bids, they explained the reasons for settling for GSM.
“To start with, we stated qualifications on the advertisement, and it goes without saying that the winner is the company that met our requirements.
They have the money, the experience and the ability which eventually made them win,” said Yanga Information Officer Ally Kamwe.
Kamwe went ahead to disclose that various companies were also interested in just some aspects of the project.
“There are companies that submitted bids but said they will be seeking to bring investors who would, in turn, put money in the project.
For others, they were interested in just LED advertisement lights, while others had a capacity of 40% or 60%,” he explained.
The stadium, which is expected to have a capacity of about 35,000, will be constructed at Jangwani in Dar es Salaam, which also houses the club’s headquarters.
The construction of the stadium will remarkably strengthen the club's infrastructure as well as its commercial growth.
Kamwe took time to disclose the next steps that would follow the closure of bidding.
“After GSM won, the next step is to officially notify the company and the public, after which both the club and the sponsor will meet to plan how to begin the work."
Further, the club also enriched its negotiation structure by expanding the Executive Committee, currently chaired by club President Hersi Said.
Alex Mgongwa has joined the committee to help the club on legal matters in relation to the agreement, while Ivan Tarimo has been added to strengthen the commercial side of the project.
