This was England's final tune-up ahead of their opening World Cup match against Croatia
England wrapped up their World Cup preparations with a convincing 6-0 victory over Miami FC in a closed-door training match, and it was Ivan Toney who stole the spotlight.
According to Daily Mail Sport, the encounter against the American second-division outfit was divided into two separate periods. Thomas Tuchel's side edged the opening segment 1-0 before turning on the style in the second, cruising to a 5-0 success.
Toney reportedly delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a hat-trick that included a spectacular long-range effort described as a "worldie." Jordan Henderson, Ethan Nwaneri, and Rio Ngumoha also found the net, with Ngumoha producing an eye-catching strike from distance.
Marc Guehi impressed at the back, while Kobbie Mainoo stood out in midfield as Tuchel observed proceedings from England's training base in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Several key names, including Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, were rested following their involvement in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in Orlando. However, the four youngsters who have spent the past ten days training with the senior squad were given valuable minutes.
Ngumoha, the 17-year-old Liverpool winger, continued to enhance his growing reputation after making his senior debut in last weekend's 1-0 win over New Zealand in Tampa. He once again attracted praise with another lively display. Nevertheless, he, along with Nwaneri, Alex Scott, and Josh King, is expected to depart the camp this weekend as the squad heads to Kansas City.
England emerged from the match without any injury concerns, and those in attendance were particularly impressed by the team's physical condition, sharpness on the ball, and overall intensity.
Earlier in the week, Tuchel outlined the purpose of the fixture, saying: "It will be a match according to our rules. It will not be 90 minutes, maybe 60 minutes, maybe 2 x 30 or 2 x 25. It is to get some minutes into the legs of players who didn't get minutes against Costa Rica."
Only three outfield players — Toney, Henderson, and Tino Livramento — failed to feature against Costa Rica, and all were involved against Miami. While the USL Championship side, coached by Argentine Gaston Maddoni, offered a competitive challenge during the opening phase, England's quality eventually proved overwhelming.
For Toney, the goals were particularly significant. The 30-year-old's inclusion in Tuchel's World Cup squad had sparked debate, and his substitute appearance against New Zealand raised some questions about his sharpness. This time, however, the striker reportedly showcased exactly why he earned his place, standing out with his clinical finishing, intelligent movement, and physical presence throughout the contest.
