Going into the match, Batoto ba Mungu had lost their midweek clash against reigning champions Kenya Police FC, while the Mailmen were on a three-match winless streak, including two consecutive draws.
Posta head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo made a tweak to his starting 11 and tactics, opting to start South Sudan international Jackson Dwang' on the wing with an intention to have more numbers in the middle of the park.
Sofapaka, on the other hand, went with the usual midfield trio of Daniel Ng’ang’a, captain Roy Okal and Adrian Oloo.
The 2009 Premier League champions started the match on the front foot, dominating the early proceedings and creating half chances that fell to Bramwel Simiyu and Vinedine Ambesa, but none could turn them into goals.
Batoto ba Mungu continued to pin Posta in their own half even past the 20th minute mark and got their reward in the 24th minute.
Daniel Ng’ang’a picked a loose ball on the right flank, just outside the 18-yard box and unleashed a ferocious shot that beat Peter Odhiambo in the Posta goal and into the back of the net to give the Ezekiel Akwana-coached side the lead.
Posta reacted by redeploying Dwang’ to midfield and Trevor Omondi to the flanks in a bid to gain control of the middle of the pack.
While there were slight changes in the trajectory of the game, there was nothing significant to change the scores before the halftime whistle.
In the second half, Posta introduced Brian Marita, Oliver Maloba and Maxwel Odada in order to bring more punch in attack, but the Stephen Bonney-marshalled defense stood tall to prevent any early damage.
Sofapaka, who had begun the half on the back foot, grew into the game towards the hour mark and in the 67th minute, utilised their first second-half chance.
Joseph Kuloba latched onto a long ball pinged to the back of Posta's defense line and overpowered Benard Odhiambo and unleased a shot into the back of the net to double the hosts’ lead.
Posta kept pushing for a potential comeback, but Edward Olak in the Sofapaka goal was on hand to deny Odada and Eliud Lokuwam.
In the end, Sofapaka held firm to their 2-0 lead until the final whistle to return to winning ways.
With the result, Sofapaka rose to seventh on the log standings with 11 points, one less than Posta Rangers, who remain sixth with their winless run extending to four matches.
