Speaking on his club’s YouTube channel before Walsall’s weekend match against Newport County, a game the Saddlers won 4–2, Harper said he was thrilled by the opportunity to link up with fellow Kenyan internationals once again.
The England-based defender, who last received a national team call-up two years ago under then-coach Engin Firat, described the recall as a major milestone in his football journey.
“It was crazy being part of the World Cup qualifiers. Although we did not qualify, it was surreal,” Harper said.
“Playing in big stadiums, facing big players, and seeing players you would not normally see on a Saturday, it was incredible.”
The 25-year-old full-back, born in Kenya but previously capped for England C at the non-league level, joined the Harambee Stars camp for the October qualifiers, marking a significant step forward in his international ambitions.
Harper, who began his career with Exeter City, said the call-up was a proud moment for him and his family and expressed hope that it would be the start of many more appearances in the national colors.
“It was an amazing feeling for me and my family. I hope to put on the Harambee Stars jersey many more times in the future,” he added.
The Walsall defender was named in the provisional squad for Kenya’s planned November friendlies in Antalya, Turkey, initially scheduled against Equatorial Guinea and Senegal.
“We have got two friendlies coming up, and it will be good to fit in with the squad and cement my spot if I can,” he said during the interview.
However, in a recent development, Harper, along with Manzur Okwaro and Adam Wilson, was omitted from the final squad named by Stars head coach Benni McCarthy.
The coach has yet to publicly comment on the decision, leaving Harper to focus on his club duties as Walsall chases promotion.
