The two nations faced off in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Friday, 10 October at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The former Arsenal captain stole the show, scoring four times as Gabon cruised to a 4-3 victory over The Gambia, who were the 'hosts'.
The Scorpions opted to host the match in Kenya due to the lack of a FIFA-accredited stadium in their home country, and also previously staged their clash against Burundi at Nyayo Stadium back in September.
After the match, the former Chelsea man took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to thank Kenyans who sang his name throughout the match.
“I love Kenya, man,” read the post.
The Olympique Marseille striker also spoke highly of Kenyans during his post-match press conference, which was repeatedly interrupted by fans shouting his name.
“I am very happy to see some nice people here in Kenya, and as I said last time, I am very happy to be here in Kenya. There are lovely people in the stadium, and thank you very much for the support,” said Aubameyang.
The 36-year-old oozed class with all four goals and revealed what it takes to keep scoring at such a high level, taking pride in his prowess.
“I think the most important thing when you are my age is to keep working and try to be fit, and I think I am very fit. I also had some good assists from my guys, and I was clinical, so I am very happy; four shots, four goals. Top striker, you know,” he stated.
The former Barcelona striker also opened up on his role in the national team and the burden of the nation on his shoulders.
“It was important for me to show the way because in our match against the Ivory Coast, our guys played very well, and I underperformed a bit, and I was not happy with that. I wanted to show the way, and I did it,” he concluded.
