The Madrid rivals may be fighting in public, but the biggest loser in the saga could be the Blaugrana's hopes of signing Julian Alvarez

Atletico Madrid are leaving nobody unanswered these days.

Having already reacted to reports linking Julian Alvarez with a move to Barcelona, Diego Simeone's side wasted little time responding to another bombshell claim - that city rivals Real Madrid had submitted an official bid for the Argentine forward.

A bid that, apparently, left them in stitches.

Less than an hour after Real Madrid released a statement regarding their reported offer for Alvarez, Atletico responded on X with five laughing-crying emojis. Ten minutes later, the club followed up with an official statement of its own, addressing Real point by point while taking a few playful shots along the way.

"Official statement with our clarifications regarding the official statement from our neighbours:

You cut the video with the Pope just before he mentioned that he is also an Atletico supporter. It seems you have confused courtesy with gratitude, so just to avoid any misunderstanding: we have nothing to thank you for. We are neither considering nor evaluating any offer for Julian.

How could we not get along when you make us laugh even more than Barcelona?

P.S. Using your good relationship with your new president, let's see if you can finally stop 'stealing' players from our academy. Thank you very much!"

As the war of words between Spain's three biggest clubs continues to intensify, it is Alvarez who appears to be caught in the middle of the storm.

And with every passing hour, it becomes harder to separate fact from fiction.

Real Madrid's official statement claiming Atletico had swiftly rejected a €150 million offer for the World Cup winner already looks, to many observers, like a carefully orchestrated media manoeuvre. More intriguingly, it may represent a rare win-win scenario for both Madrid clubs.

Although Alvarez is hardly a necessity for Real's already star-studded attack, Florentino Perez could point to the move as the fulfilment of a campaign promise to pursue one of world football's elite talents.

Atletico, meanwhile, benefit from the narrative as well. The reported offer helps inflate Alvarez's perceived market value while simultaneously sending a clear message to Barcelona: if €150 million is not enough, the Argentine may simply be beyond their financial reach.

Viewed from that angle, the entire saga begins to resemble a coordinated effort - intentional or otherwise - by the two Madrid rivals to discourage Barcelona from entering the race for one of the most sought-after forwards in world football. Now all eyes turn towards Camp Nou.

Assuming a response is coming at all.
