The Madrid club posted a series of tweets about Barcelona's players
The transfer market is always full of rumors, but Atletico Madrid's response to reports that Barcelona want to lure away Julian Alvarez has taken football trolling to a whole new level. Instead of issuing a boring, formal denial, the Colchoneros opted for pure irony, using social media to send Barcelona a series of "official offers" for their biggest stars. It all started with a post on X (formerly Twitter), where Atletico announced that they had sent a fax to Barcelona with an offer for Lamine Yamal. The offer consisted of: four tickets to a concert by global superstar Bad Bunny, a one-year subscription to the Spanish newspaper ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds. Alongside the message, Atletico added that they were eagerly awaiting Barcelona's response so they could begin preparing the graphic for Yamal's official unveiling.

Not content with stopping there, Atletico soon followed up with an "improved" offer for Pedri, written in the unmistakable style of transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
"HERE WE GO! We have a small problem with this second offer — we've run out of tickets for tomorrow's concert, so we've improved the bid to six tickets for Sunday's concert".

To complete their "three-for-one" operation, Atletico then turned their attention to Raphinha. The club jokingly claimed that time was running out and offered Barcelona a deal they "couldn't refuse": a one-year loan move for the Brazilian, in exchange for Atletico sending Barcelona "Tom Ford and Smith" on loan, with no purchase option included. After causing a stir online, Atletico used their Instagram account to explain the purpose behind the campaign and send a rather direct message to the public:
"And remember, it only took us five minutes to create this fake story. We live in an era where reality can be manipulated. Don't believe everything you see, especially if it's related to Barcelona".
Behind the social media show lies the harsh reality of modern transfer speculation. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Atletico's management confirmed that the club has never received a single official offer from Barcelona for Julian Alvarez. With one clever move, Atletico managed to highlight the problem of media speculation, defend their star striker, and take a playful swipe at one of their biggest rivals at the same time.
