The release means Henia-Kamau will once again be searching for a new club after joining Hull City's development side last year following his departure from Swansea City.

Kenya international Sammy Henia-Kamau has been released by Hull City as the club begins preparations for the 2026/27 English Premier League (EPL) season following their successful promotion from the Championship.

The decision deals a blow to the youngster's hopes of breaking into Hull City's senior squad and potentially becoming only the second Harambee Stars player, after Victor Wanyama, to play in the Premier League, widely regarded as one of the world's top football competitions.

Hull confirmed Henia-Kamau's departure from the club's retained list that was released after the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. The forward is among seven Under-21 players who will leave the Tigers upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of June.

"The following players will be released following the expiration of their contracts: Pharrell Brown, Rocco Coyle, Sammy Henia-Kamau, João Mendes, Harry Revill, Noah Wadsworth and Callum Yam," the club said in a statement.

Born in England to a Kenyan father, Henia-Kamau recently took a significant step in his career after making his Harambee Stars debut in Sunday's international friendly against Lesotho in Pretoria, South Africa.

The versatile attacker, capable of operating across the front line, came on as a second-half substitute as he earned his first senior cap for Kenya.

Ahead of his debut, the youngster described his national team call-up as a dream come true.

"It honestly still feels unreal," Henia-Kamau said. "This is something I've carried in my heart for years, growing up and dreaming about representing Kenya one day."

The release means Henia-Kamau will once again be searching for a new club after joining Hull City's development side last year following his departure from Swansea City.

At just 20 years old, the forward remains one of Kenya's promising overseas-based talents and will be hoping a new opportunity emerges to help him continue his development at a high level.

Hull's retained list also revealed that goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright will remain at the club after the Tigers exercised a one-year extension option in his contract, keeping him at the MKM Stadium until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

Midfielder Harry Vaughan, currently on loan at Irish side Bohemians, will depart when his contract expires on June 30, while the loan spells of Toby Collyer, Joe Gelhardt, Amir Hadžiahmetović, Yū Hirakawa, Lewis Koumas and John Lundstram will also come to an end.

The club confirmed that all other first-team players remain under contract for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Within the academy ranks, James Debayo, Cathal McCarthy, Hugh Parker, Tyrell Sellars-Fleming and Khiani Shombe are among the Under-21 players retained for next season, while Stan Ashbee, Ed Devine, Archie Howard, Aidon Shehu and Nathan Tinsdale have been offered new deals.
