Moments after calmly converting his third goal from the penalty spot, Ssenyonjo removed his shirt to reveal a message printed on his inner vest.
Fans would typically have expected a familiar religious slogan such as “Ni God Manze,” “Mambo ya God,” or “Unless they kill God,” as is common among local players.
But as he wheeled toward the jubilant Leopards supporters, it became clear that the message on Ssenyonjo’s chest was neither an ordinary tagline nor in English—or any language most fans would easily understand.
The message read, read ‘Nung es Suerte. Siempere es Dios.’
Speaking after the match, the former Express FC striker explained the meaning of the message and why he gladly took the referee’s caution for it.
“It means ‘It is not luck, it is always God’. I have been waiting patiently for my time while working hard, and God has just rewarded my efforts,” he opened up in an interview with Azam TV.
The former Wakiso Giants player admitted that prayer had become a reliable source of strength in helping him cope with the pressure of breaking into the first team and securing regular game time.
Prior to the game, Ssenyonjo had struggled to prove that he was the man to solve the goal-scoring problem at the den, thanks to the competition from his teammates.
“At the start of the season, I did not know the league was. Right now, I have an idea of how it looks since I have played a couple of games and know how some teams play, which helps me.
I have equally worked hard to sharpen my skills and improve on my mistakes. I am now going to build on this momentum and prepare well for each game,” he added.
