Kenya Sevens’ second side, the Morans, are set to fly the Kenyan flag high at this year’s Zambezi Challenge 7s, scheduled for Saturday, 8 to Sunday, 9 November in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Head coach Kevin Wambua has expressed confidence in his squad’s readiness and composure as they gear up for the continental showpiece.

The Morans head into the tournament buoyed by their impressive Safari 7s performance, where they edged out hosts Zimbabwe 19-12 in the third-place final to retain bronze.
Wambua has assembled a side that blends youth and experience, making ten changes from the team that featured at the Safari 7s.
Missing from the squad are Elvis Olukusi (KCB Rugby), the Strathmore Leos trio of Barnabas Owuor, Elton Amalemba, and Arnold Muita, Arnold Agonda (Daystar Falcons), and Eugene Ojiambo (Mwamba RFC).
In their place, the tactician has recalled seasoned players such as Gabriel Ayimba, Dennis Abukuse, Chrissant Ojwang, and Floyd Wabwire, whose experience is expected to anchor the team.
“We are building from the Safari 7s, and the preparations have been good. The priority over the last two weeks has been based on performance from Safari 7s and how we can build from it,” Wambua said.
He praised his players’ response in training, noting that the focus has been on improving confidence and refining tactical and technical execution.
“The boys have responded well so far, and the objective is to give them confidence in their abilities with a bit of tactical and technical upskill. The tournament is more about the team than any individual player,” he added.
Wambua emphasized that the selected squad reflects the Morans’ central role in developing talent for the senior national team, Shujaa.
“We have assembled a quality squad with a blend of skill, energy, and hunger to compete. This is an important step for these players as we continue strengthening the pipeline for the national sevens program. We believe they are ready to represent the country with pride and deliver excellent performances,” he concluded.
The Zambezi Challenge 7s will feature host nation Zimbabwe, who are expected to field both a main and second side alongside Zambia, Botswana, and several South African franchise teams.
