Set for Saturday, 26 to Sunday, 27 July 2025 at the Mombasa Sports Club, the Driftwood Sevens marks the opening leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit and promises to deliver the same electrifying atmosphere that defined last year’s edition.
The two-day tournament is one of the most anticipated events on Kenya’s rugby calendar, drawing thousands of fans and elite teams from across the country.
Tusker returns this year as the official alcoholic beverage partner and the tournament’s official entertainment partner, once again bringing together the sport, the music, and the spirit of togetherness that defines the Sevens experience.
Fans can look forward to a vibrant blend of elite rugby and iconic Tusker-led celebrations at the tournament's afterparty.
Speaking during the official sponsorship announcement, Christine Kariuki, KBL Head of Mainstream Beer, emphasised the brand’s longstanding relationship with sport:
“We’re proud to be back. Last year’s Sevens Circuit and Driftwood in particular reminded us just how powerful this sport is in bringing Kenyans together.
Tusker’s legacy in rugby is one of passion, pride and purpose. This year, our Ksh3 million sponsorship will once again go beyond the pitch, enabling club support, fan engagement and experiences that celebrate Kenyan greatness.”
Mombasa Rugby Club Commercial Director Teddy Ndemo welcomed Tusker’s backing and expressed confidence in a successful tournament.
“We are honoured to receive this significant support from Tusker. Hosting the Driftwood Sevens is a matter of great pride for Mombasa Rugby and the entire coast rugby fraternity.
With Tusker’s support, we are working around the clock to deliver a spectacular event, from smooth logistics and strong competition to a truly enjoyable fan experience.”
The 2025 edition of the Driftwood Sevens promises fierce competition, with several top-tier teams set to battle it out for early dominance on the circuit.
Defending champions Kenya Harlequins, winners of both the 2024 Driftwood and the overall 2024 National Sevens Circuit, will be aiming to retain their crown.
Also expected to contend are Kabras RFC, the 2025 Kenya Cup champions, who claimed two-leg victories in the 2024 season at the Christie Sevens in Nairobi and the Dala Sevens in Kisumu, finishing second overall.
KCB Rugby, the 2023 circuit champions, finished third last year and will be eager to reclaim their spot at the top, having secured their sole 2024 win at the Kabeberi Sevens.
Menengai Oilers and Strathmore Leos, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 2024 standings, will also be in the hunt. Other notable contenders include Nondies RFC, Catholic Monks, Nakuru RFC, Black Blad and Mwamba RFC.
The Driftwood Sevens kicks off the 2025 National Sevens Circuit, which features six tournaments across the country. Following the Mombasa leg, the circuit will proceed as follows:
Prinsloo Sevens (Nakuru) – 2nd to 3rd August
Christie Sevens (Nairobi) – 16th to 17th August
