Uganda is one of the co-hosts of the biennial continental tourney, alongside neighbours Kenya and Tanzania.
The tournament, which is a preserve of locally based players, will be staged from Saturday, 2 August to Saturday, 30 August.
Uganda's Local Organising Committee (LOC) released the ticketing information that will make fans wishing to attend matches at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala happier with the rates.
In an effort to ensure more fans attend the matches for a better championship, Uganda had pegged regular tickets at USD1 (approximately Ksh129 and UGX3,586) with VIP tickets retailing at USD2 (approximately Ksh258 and UGX7,052).
It will cost fans only USD3 (approximately Ksh387 and UGX10,578) to get a VVIP experience, a move that has been widely welcomed by local fans.
According to Uganda LOC chairman Dennis Mugimba, the pricing is a result of an advisory from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to ensure tickets are affordable, especially to locals.
“CAF has advised that we make ticket prices affordable for everyone. At the moment, we were advised to consider a $1, $2, and $3 ticketing model for the ordinary, VIP and VVIP, and each country will depend on that to price tickets.
We want every Ugandan to feel part of this moment. CHAN 2024 is not just about football — it’s about showcasing who we are as a nation,” Mugimba told Kawowo Sports.
Additionally, Mugimba said that it was also the intention of the Ugandan government to allow fans to have a footballing experience as opposed to making profits.
“The Government of Uganda didn’t bring CHAN to make profits,” he added.
In Kenya, regular tickets have been priced at Ksh200 while VIP and VVIP will retail at Ksh500 and Ksh1,000 respectively.
The first match on Kenyan soil will see Harambee Stars take on DR Congo on Sunday, 3 August at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani from 1500 hrs.
