Strathmore Leos’ prodigy Victor Mola has joined the Kenya 7s national team; Shujaa, Mozzart Sport can exclusively report.

The 20-year-old will be an essential addition to Coach Kevin Wambua’s squad, even as the team gears up for the upcoming Paris Olympics as well as the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series.

In an exclusive with Mozzart Sport, the audibly excited youngster noted that it was a dream come true. Mola is one of the young players in the country whose level of rugby is unmatched.

At his young age, he has won several accolades including the 2024 Great Rift 10s top try scorer and the most promising player, 2022 Dala 7s Most Promising Player, and he was part of the Chipu class of 2023.

“I was just from training when I saw the message to report for training. I never expected anything of that sort and I was overjoyed,” Mola discosed.

What further excites Mola is the prospect of training under the close watch of esteemed mentors and celebrated coaches. He will also be under the tutelage of coach Louis Khisia who honed his skills in Strathmore.

“I will get to train with experienced coaches and more of high-octane rugby,” he offered.

The new role will come with its own set of challenges, demanding adaptability and resilience but he was confident in his ability to overcome these obstacles. He was optimistic that the call up will scale his game to a whole new level.

“I want to gain skills and have the ability to read the game making sure I get to do everything right and how it’s expected to be done. I believe it will help me up my game as a player and also improve my confidence while playing,” he averred.

For Mola, this achievement marks a beginning of a new phase filled with rigorous effort. He understands that staying at the top requires constant improvement and dedication and is determined to continually push his limits and refine his skills.

“My biggest dream I’d say is to have a chance to represent the nation as a player. Impossible is nothing. I just have to do my best because I believe that God will make a way. All will be well,” the spiritual Mola said.

Mola was snapped up from Kisumu RFC after an impressive 2022 season where he bagged the Dala 7s Most Promising Player award.

He joined Strathmore Leos where he honed his skills under the close watch of inexhaustible coach Louis Khisia; the current Shujaa assistant coach.

The Leos’ squad is littered with other talents like self-proclaimed King George Ooro, Matoka Matoka, Richard Omedo, Gabriel Ayimba and Nygel Amaitsa.

For the youngster, some of his rugby highlights so far include being part of the Kenya Rugby League National Team which made its international debut with a 26-6 loss to Ghana in the Mid-East Rugby League Championship semi-final played at the Legon Stadium, University of Accra, Ghana.

He was also on duty with Chipu during the U20 Barthes Cup as well as the World Rugby U20 Trophy.

In the latter, Chipu settled for sixth place after losing 64-10 to U20 Barthes Cup defending champions Zimbabwe; Junior Sables.
