Shujaa's other best-ever finish at the Olympics was at the delayed Tokyo 2020 games

Kenya Sevens wrapped up their Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a 10-5 win over Samoa to claim a ninth place finish, equaling their best-ever placing at the global games posted in 2020.

Shujaa were seeking revenge after a humiliating 26-0 defeat in their final match of Pool B that saw Kenya fail to win any pool game in their overall Olympics history.

The 2016 Singapore champions posted the perfect start to the game with John Okoth receiving a long pass on the right wing before touching down.

Shujaa co-captain Anthony Omondi could however not convert the try from a tricky angle as Kenya took an early 5-0 lead.

Kevin Wambua’s charges looked much improved on defence as they thwarted every attempt from the Polynesian islanders.

Shujaa should have ended the first half with another try after captain Vincent Onyala broke the lines but an ankle tap saw Kenya loose the ball forward.

Kenya picked up from where they left off in the first half as Menengai Oilers talisman John Okoth crossed the whitewash for his second try but Omondi again missed the conversion that saw Kenya double their lead to 10-0.

Samoa however had a swift riposte with Motu Opetai finding himself in acres of space after an overload on the right channel to land their first try but Paul Scanlan missed the conversion.

A number of crucial tackles from Nygel Amaitsa and Samuel Asati ensured that Kenya clinched their second victory of the 2024 Olympics.
