Samoa have always been tricky customers for Kenya with the Shujaa only winning one of their last nine encounters, stretching back to 2019

Kenya Sevens' wait for a Pool victory at an Olympics event will have to at least wait for another four years after they were whitewashed 26-0 by Samoa in their final Pool game.

Having participated in every Olympic Games since rugby sevens was introduced as a sport in the Rio 2016 Games, Shujaa are still searching for their maiden pool win.

Samoa have always been tricky customers for Kenya with the Shujaa only winning one of their last nine encounters, stretching back to 2019.

Kenya however won their last encounter against the Polynesian island on course to gaining their promotion to the revamped HSBC SVNS back in May.

Shujaa had another challenging start after having troubles with gathering the restarts in their opening games against Argentina and Australia on Wednesday that both ended in defeat.

Samoa made their early dominance in possession count with Motu Opetai touching down, Falaniko Faafoi was however casual with his conversion that he sent wide.

Shujaa saw little of ball in hand in the opening half and were dealt a further blow when Kevin Wekesa was sent to the sin bin.

Muliagatele Fata’s charges had a similar start to the second half as they capitalised on an error that saw Paul Sanlan dot down for a try as Falaniko this time added the extras.

Discipline was thrown out of the window by Kenya as co-captain Tony Omondi was also sent to the bin for kicking the ball away from the opponent after Samoa got an attacking line out.

Samoa captain Apelu Maliko fended off tackles from John Okoth and Nigel Amaitsa to touch down right behind the posts for Maiava Tom to easily convert.

Steve Onosai drilled the final nail in Shujaa’s coffin with the final action of the game after Tony Omondi ceded position in Samoa’s five-metre line with Leitufia Neueli converting the try.
