Kubu scored two of the three tries that helped Kabras end KCB's unbeaten streak this season.
Kabras Sugar ace Jone Kubu has backed his side, Kabras RFC, to leave nothing to chance in the defense of their Kenya Cup title heading into the playoffs of the 2022/2023 campaign.
This is after the sugar millers handed themselves a massive advantage in their quest for a third league title after recording an impressive 23-29 victory over perennial rivals KCB to leapfrog the Bankers at the top of the table as they remained the only unbeaten side in the division with one match to go in the regular season.
Having found pride in the team’s performance against the Curtis Olago coached side, the Fijian born Kenyan international stated that their preparations for the upcoming games will be critical in achieving their mission of defending their gong.
“Nothing is impossible you know. These couple of weeks will be crucial for us, how we humble ourselves and how we approach the playoffs,” the player told Mozzart Sport.

Leave alone his kicking, I was so impressed by how he took matters into his own hands when Kabras showed signs of crumbling. His talking to teammates especially.

Reflecting on the performance that saw the team record a rare victory against KCB at home, the Kenya Simbas star lauded the team’s maturity despite tough question being asked of them at the start of the second half when they saw their 0-16 lead overturned to 17-16 before they managed to galvanize for the win.
“At some point, we were a bit shaky there and had to remind the boys to just keep calm and to relax. Because the game is all about relaxing. If you have a cool head, you’ll come out victorious.
Coming to Ruaraka is also always hard. It is not always a joyride all the time. We always have to work hard for the game and it really paid for the boys which makes me really happy. I am so proud of how the boys specifically executed what we had been working on during the week,” Kubu said.
I think it is all about maturity. Playing against KCB in our previous years, everyone was young and now I think they guys are matured enough to get into these battles. This is not only a battle, it is a war because it is always tough,” the player added.
The fullback, who bagged two tries in the game, also dedicated the win to the Kabras fans as he credited the team’s forwards for the good job they did in the clash.
"The victory means a lot, not only for the boys but for our fans, our families back home and the rest of the community in Kakamega. It is something special to come here and win so I am really glad the boys made it. I will give credit to the boys because it is them who carried us forward to the other side so it is upto us to finish with how we score our points,” he concluded.
