The result saw Oilers eliminate the Bankers for the second consecutive season, echoing their 31-8 demolition of KCB in last season’s Kenya Cup semifinal.

The Nakuru-based side, who lifted last year’s Floodlit title after hammering Impala 42-3 in the final, are now on course to defend their crown.

For KCB, the loss was another heartbreak in a difficult 15s campaign that once again ended without silverware.

Having been stunned by Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad in last year’s Floodlit quarters, the Bankers came into this tie seeking redemption, but Oilers once again stood in their way.

Oilers started on the front foot as heavy rain made conditions slippery, opting for early points through Timothy Omela, who calmly slotted a penalty to make it 3-0.

KCB replied in the 10th minute with a penalty of their own to level the score at 3-3.

The Bankers then took control when Brian Wahinya’s clever kick was chased down and grounded by William Opaka for a converted try, extending their lead to 10-3.

Though Oilers clawed back with another penalty, KCB’s defence held strong as halftime approached, repelling several Oilers attacks deep in their territory.

The second half was tight, with both teams battling for territory and possession. KCB added another penalty to make it 13-6 and looked set to advance.

However, the defending champions refused to back down. Sustained pressure in the final minutes paid off as Samuel Mwaura, coming off the bench, converted a try scored under the posts to tie the match at 13-13.

Moments later, Mwaura turned hero again, slotting a pressure penalty that clipped the upright before sailing through to seal a 16-13 victory, sparking jubilant celebrations from the Oilers bench.

With the win, Menengai Oilers advance to the semifinals, where they will face hosts Impala RFC on Saturday, 1 November, at the Impala Club.

Meanwhile, Impala reached this stage after a narrow 24-21 victory over Mwamba RFC in a match that went to extra time, with Quinto Ongo’s penalty sending them through to the semifinals.

The other semifinal will see Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad take on Nondies RFC. Blak Blad advanced after defeating Kenya Harlequin 35-13, while Nondies edged Strathmore Leos 27-21.
