The Law Enforcers qualified for their maiden Champions League campaign after winning their first-ever league title last season, edging out Kenyan giants Gor Mahia to the crown.
However, the 2024 Mozzart Bet Cup champions could not replicate the same form at the continental level.
In their second preliminary round clash, the Etienne Ndayiragije-coached side suffered a 4-1 aggregate defeat to Sudanese club Al Hilal Omdurman, missing out on the lucrative group stages of the tournament.
To soothe their pain, CAF will award Police $100,000 (approximately Ksh12.9 million) for their participation in Africa’s elite club competition.
The amount is part of the financial rewards that CAF has introduced and improved. Until last season, there was no financial reward for teams that did not reach the group stage.
Last season, CAF introduced a $50,000 (approximately Ksh6.45 million) reward for teams that reach the preliminary stage.
The continental football governing body went ahead to double the amount this season, with Police FC part of the first beneficiaries.
The amount is more than double what the Law Enforcers are owed by the federation for winning last season’s league title and just Ksh2.1 million shy of what FKFPL winners are expected to earn at the end of this season.
In contrast, Police’s loss to Al Hilal Omdurman not only cost them a place in the group stage but also tens of millions from CAF.
Had Police qualified for the group stage, they could have banked $700,000 (approximately Ksh90.3 million).
A quarter-final place could have earned Police $900,000 (approximately Ksh116.1 million) while a place in the last four is worth $1.2 million (approximately Ksh154.8 million).
In the improved prize money, finalists will earn $2 million (approximately Ksh258 million), with the winners bagging a whopping $4 million (approximately Ksh516 million).
