Kenya Simbas to face Junior Springboks in training match

The men’s national rugby 15s side Kenya Simbas are set to host the Border Bulldogs this Saturday 6 May in their third Mzansi Challenge fixture that will be played at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.

As part of their preparations, the team will have a training match against the South African U20 rugby side, Junior Boks on Thursday 4 May at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport where head coach Jerome Muller will be using the match to test the side he wants to field on Saturday when they take on the Bulldogs.

Speaking ahead of the training match, Muller revealed the team will be using the opportunity to hand game time to players who have not featured in the opening two clashes as they also seek to get an understanding of territory to play in.

"There is a lot of guys in our team who have not played yet and we want all of them to get some game time. This week our focus has been on the kicking game so the players can understand which part of the field we are and when we have to exit from lineouts and scrums so we can play in the right areas of the field.

Our set pieces were good last week and the guys understand our contesting policy. That is why we managed to steal a few balls from EP's possession. Border is a different team and has changed a lot from last year, they have a good structure and big forwards that is why it is important for us to have a kicking game," stated Jerome.

The coach added that he is also working on getting the team to score tries when they are in the oppositions 22M part of the field.

The match day 23 against Border Bulldogs will be released on Friday 5th May 2023.
