
Curtis Lilako retires from professional rugby

He led KCB to five Kenya Cup titles between 2017 and 2021
KCB rugby skipper Curtis Lilako has called time on his competitive rugby career spanning close to 15 years.
The prop made this announcement after the conclusion of the 15s season.
The 35-year-old skipper who captained the bankers to a number of titles is widely regarded as one of the most talented and hardworking players in Kenya.
Curtlow, as he is popularly known in rugby circles, made this announcement on his twitter handle where he posted a picture of him in a KCB RFC jersey with the caption #CL3Out.
He led the side to five Kenya Cup titles between 2017 and 2021 and has successfully seen KCB RFC lift several Enterprise Cup and Floodies titles.
Lilako has also had 38 caps with the Kenya 15s national team, Simbas having been part of the team for nine years between 2010 and 2019. His last role was that of leading Kenya past Zambia with a 31-16 victory in the 2019 Victoria Cup.
This announcement has come as a surprise to many rugby fans and his teammates, who have praised him for his leadership, dedication, and contribution to the sport in Kenya.
Fellow teammate Davis Chenge said it was an honour to play alongside the Kenya International.
“Thank you for your service skipper. It was an honor to share a pitch with you,” Chenge wrote.
Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Media and Communication team leader Michael Kwambo on his part wished Likako well on his retirement.
“It has been a solid innings. Happy retirement mate,” Kwambo wrote.
Former chair of the Kenya Bankers Association Faith Basiye bid him goodbye saying, “True servant of the game. Thank you for giving your best on both the local and international stages. Champagne rugby. Onto the next phase skipper. Will truly miss seeing you in action.”
