
Kakamega 7s: Menengai Oilers seal maiden Circuit title after comeback win over KCB

All Oilers needed to do before Kakamega7s was to get to the final that they did after coming from behind.
For the first time in their six year history, Menengai Oilers claimed the National Sevens Circuit title after beating KCB RFC 17-12 in the semi finals of the Kakamega 7s to open up an assailable lead at the summit of the log.
In what was the first Main Cup semi final, KCB RFC were quickly off the blocks looking to make up the four-point gap at the summit of the log that is currently being occupied by Oilers with Geoffrey Okwach grabbing a brace to hand KCB a 12-0 lead at half time.
Gibson Weru had some stern words for his charges at half time evidenced from strong start to second half as they managed to level the scores with two minutes left on the clock.
Chrispine Shitundu managed to score a try at the depth to hand Oilers a 17-12 lead with the kick to come but KCB failed to hold on to the ball as the Nakuru-based side emerged champions.
In the other semi finals, Kabras Sugar booked a place in the final after edging Strathmore Leos 14-10 to make the home crowd happy.
In the opening Challenge Cup Semis, Daystar University proved to strong against Prinsloo 7s Challenge Cup winners Nondescripts in a nail biting encounter that ended 20-22.
The Varsity side survived a howler when thought they heard the hooter sound and kicked the ball out only for the referee to call a line up which Nondies scored from but the missed the conversion that would have leveled things.
The return of Archadius Khwesa to Blak Blad after being part of the Kenya 7s Commonwealth Games camp proved the difference as they managed a 17-0 shut out against Kenya Harlequin.
