The achievement was announced by Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), with the union congratulating the former Kenya Sevens captain on the latest step in his coaching career.

"Congratulations to former Kenya Shujaa captain and KCB Head Coach Andrew Amonde on your World Rugby Level Two 15s coaching accreditation. To bigger and better," the union posted.

The certification comes at a time when Amonde continues to establish himself as one of Kenya's brightest young coaches.

The former international guided KCB Rugby to a second-place finish in the 2025/26 Kenya Cup after taking over as the club's interim head coach in September 2025. Under his leadership, the Bankers also captured the 2025 National Sevens Circuit title before embarking on an impressive Kenya Cup campaign.

In addition to his club responsibilities, Amonde also serves as the Kenya Sevens strength and conditioning coach, balancing both roles as he continues to develop the country's rugby talent.

His latest coaching success came when KCB Rugby lifted the Dala 7s title after edging Kabras RFC 17-5 in a tightly contested final.

Before transitioning into coaching, Amonde enjoyed one of the most decorated playing careers in Kenyan rugby.

The dynamic flanker made his Kenya Sevens debut at the 2006 South Africa Sevens, and went on to become one of the country's most influential players, winning multiple honours with both Shujaa and KCB Rugby.

In 2012, Amonde was appointed Kenya Sevens captain, a role he held for more than eight years to become the longest-serving Shujaa skipper in the team's history.

During his tenure, he captained Kenya to qualification for the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens, where Shujaa produced an impressive fourth-place finish. He also led the team to qualification for their maiden Olympic Games at the 2016 Olympics and featured in the squad that competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

One of the defining moments of his international career came in 2016 when he played a key role as Kenya stunned Fiji 30-7 to win the Singapore Sevens, securing the country's first-ever HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Cup title.

Amonde retired from club rugby in July 2022, just weeks after calling time on his international career.
