Paul Murunga's Kenya Harlequin are the winners of 2024 Driftwood 7s after seeing off KCB Rugby 15-12 in a closely contested final played at the Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday, 8 September.
Quins came from behind twice to edge the Bankers. The win also saw them claim their second title in this year’s National 7s Circuit.
The last time the Quins won the tournament was in 2016, and the triumphs saw them become the most successful club in the tournament’s history.
They are now closer to winning the 2024 National 7s Circuit title.

Match report
It was KCB who scored first after swift passes and impressive defense. The Quins would then pile pressure on their opponents to force an interception, and Charles Kinyanjui went over with their opening try. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful. Scores 5-5.
In the final half, KCB scored another converted well-pointer to retake the lead.
The Quins showcased zeal and resilience, scoring through Amon Wamalwa. They however missed the conversion.
In the dying minutes, Quins forced KCB to infringe and they earned a penalty. They opted for a scrum and from it, Lucky Dewald made a long pass to Patrick Wainaina, who raced clear to score at the right corner, sealing a thrilling 15-12 victory for the Quins.

The last time the Bankers appeared in a Driftwood 7s final was in 2019 when they defeated Impala Saracens to win their third title.
Third-place playoff
In the third-place playoff, Blak Blad pulled off a surprise 22-10 victory over outgoing champions Kabras RFC.
Derrick Ashihundu gave Blak Blad an early lead with a try on the right wing. Kabras responded but still trailed 7-5 at halftime.
In the second half, Alfred Orege extended Blak Blad's lead with a solo try, and despite Kabras' efforts to mount a comeback, Ian Kitutu crossed the line for Blak Blad, making it 19-10.
A late penalty after the final whistle allowed Blak Blad to add three more points, securing their best finish of the season.
