Kenya Lionesses have received a timely boost ahead of the crucial 2026 HSBC SVNS 2, with influential centre Stellah Wafula returning to camp.

Wafula was away for three months, having been accepted into a high-performance program in the United States.

Her return was confirmed through a video shared on the Lionesses’ official social media platforms, showing the powerful midfielder putting in work at the gym.

The post was accompanied by a bold caption that read, “She is back. Are you even ready?”

The centre has been absent from national duty while attending the Rhinos High-Performance Camp, a professional rugby development program run by Rhinos Rugby in partnership with the Rugby Tens Championship (R10C).

Based in San Clemente, California, and parts of South Africa, the program is designed to prepare elite male and female players for professional and international rugby through intensive training, high-level competition, and holistic player support across 15s, 7s, and Tens formats.

During her absence, Wafula missed key assignments, including the Safari 7s, where the Lionesses edged Uganda 14-10 to lift the title, and the Africa Women’s 7s, which ended in a tough 22-0 defeat to South Africa.

Her experience and physical presence were notably absent in those outings, making her return a welcome addition to the squad.

Wafula rejoins the team at a critical moment as the Lionesses build towards the 2026 HSBC SVNS Division 2, set to be hosted in Nairobi on Saturday, 14 February 2026.

The home tournament presents an important opportunity for the side to reassert themselves on the global stage, with expectations high for a strong showing in front of local fans.

The Lionesses have already begun their December training block, with sessions focused on conditioning and sharpening core skills before a brief break over the festive period.

Preparations are expected to intensify in January as the countdown to the Nairobi leg begins.
